PREPARING FOR THE MOVE

Plan your Space Ahead of Time - check the room sizes of where you are going, determine how your furniture will fit into your new space.

Decide which pieces of furniture that you will want to take with you, if any, to your next home.

Whether you are moving yourself or hiring a mover it is a good idea to book the moving truck about one to two months before the moving date. Decide if you will move yourself with a little help, or hire a moving company. Sometimes it is worth the cost to hire a professional mover.

If you do decide to hire a moving company, get referrals from friends for two or three moving companies. Obtain written estimates and ask for references. Find out from your insurance agent whether your household insurance covers any damage during a move. If not, find out how much the replacement value insurance from the moving company will cost. Check to see if you save on costs if you move during the week.

Once you’ve made the final arrangements for moving, it's time to start packing!
